Clearly she has been re-engined with a Yanmar and we suspect that might be early 1990's.

We believe that the standing rigging may be original ie mid to late 1970's but it may well have been updated at some point in the past. Her running rigging was mostly renewed in March 2017 and has remained unused. Her Genoa has a new sacrificial strip, unused since fitting 2017.

She was lifted and stored ashore two years ago (Dec 2016). The following March she had fresh anti-fouling paint and new anodes were fitted at that time but due to her owner's age and health she was never re-launched. Her hull appears to be fair and her gelcoat in good condition for her age.

Broker's Comments
Here we have a rather sad example of the ubiquitous Westerly Centaur, that handsome and roomy bilge keeled cruiser with offshore capability of which we were so fond in the 1970's and '80's. Relatively heavy displacement for a 26 footer, she's well balanced and sea kindly on all points of sail. Her accommodation can sleep six at full stretch with a v berth infill and the saloon table lowered to provide a double berth in the saloon. However, a crew of six would be a tight squeeze for most people and in reality she is a great family boat for two adults and a gaggle of kids.
Now, Centaurs are a bit like buses. You don't see one for sale for ages and then two turn up almost together. Sadly we are told that the owner of this one probably hasn't set foot aboard her for nigh on ten years. He may be excused since we also believe that as he is a centenarian, health issues have limited his sailing ambitions, to put it mildly! She came ashore at the end of 2016 to make way for new marina works and there she has stayed, growing greener by the week.
With no faintness of heart, her owner still hoped to continue sailing her and therefore instructed an engine service, anti-fouling, new anodes and a Genoa sacrificial strip to be applied. The sail was valeted and kept in store in Ratsey's Sail loft, who also supplied and fitted new running rigging.
So, on the one hand she appears to be sound in keel and hull, deck and windows but we have no idea when her standing rigging was last changed. We judge her to be a mid to late '70's model from her windows, port holes, lower shroud fixings and rudder pattern. We also think that she must have been re-engined, possibly early '90's. Her engine was serviced by Dale Sailing Co when she came ashore in 2016 and her batteries look of a similar era.
Her rotten ply wood head linings need replacing (and the deck leak which caused them needs fixing but she's as 'cheap as chips' and a couple of days with a pressure washer would no doubt transform her.
