Broker's Comments
Longer and beamier than its smaller sisters, this sturdy, spacious and very versatile family cruiser ticks a lot of boxes.
Renowned for their ability to float on a damp lawn, this 'built to last' Southerly, with heavy grounding plate and lifting keel, would be equally at home sailing across the channel to warmer climes as it would navigating the shallowest local coastal creeks or sitting on a drying berth.
Although the lifting keel takes a little bit of space down below, the accommodation seems to have been cleverly designed around it and has a light, spacious & homely feel. In addition to the well equipped galley, this vessel has a large aft cabin, practical fwd cabin, plenty of berths, good head room, ample stowage and a good sized heads compartment. She would also serve well as a live aboard / holiday home.
The versatile saloon table on this example has been improved so it can be adjusted to sit more hungry crew around it or slid up out of the way, to make more space.
It is easy to move around on deck, the high centre cockpit will help keep you dry and give a sense of security in a following sea. The 'in boom' reefing on the main and the furler on the Genoa, allow both sails to be reefed from the cockpit.
Easy to handle and capable of long passages or pottering round the estuaries, it's easy to see why folk hang on to these great boats. The present owners, who have looked after her for the past 25 years, would love to see someone else do the same and enjoy her as much as they have.
